Saint Andrew Academy of Music

St. Andrew Academy of Music opened its doors on March 1, 1999.   Pastor Al Jansen came to Saint Andrew United Methodist Church in 1994 and brought with him the idea of a music academy.  The goal of the music academy  is to offer musical instruction to students in the Santa Maria Valley.  As we celebrate our 10th year,  we're still excited about making music matter in our community.

  • Music is a universal language.
  • Music engages the brain and stimulates neural pathways associated with mathematics, abstract thinking and empathy.
  • Music's melodic and rhythmic patterns exercise the brain and help develop memory.  (Remember the ABC song?)
  • Music trains listening skills (goes hand in hand with school achievement.)
  • Music is a creative experience that helps us express feelings.
  • Music is the way we pass on our beloved songs to future generations.
  • Music involves family and community participation at home, school, and church.

Teaching music at the Academy is both a great joy and challenge.  Music reaches all children, and we take delight in helping students develop their abilities.  Please join us in making music part of every young person' life!
